On some re coat stuff I've done. I found that everything I wiped would leave streaks where the cloth rubbed. So I saturated the whole job on prep wash , dried it in the oven and problem solved. All I do is switchboards though. Love your channel, learned heaps. Would love to take a working holiday over to USA and hone my skills.

Hey Dan, I bought an Electron e-coat from you 7-8 months ago. I’m still pretty new to powder coating but am getting pretty good results so far. One thing I’m struggling with is orange peel. Was wondering if you could give me a couple pointers. Thanks

On your curing time/cost I’m assuming you’re considering energy per hr etc? When out gassing; do you do that in a separate furnace?

Just checked out your 10 tips for beginners. I’m trying to get into powder coating for my own personal stuff. Old 72 Chevy truck. Retired 2 1/2 years ago. I have a product that I powder coat all of the metal parts (3) by warming them first for about 5 minutes at cure temperature. The warmer temperature of the parts makes the powder coating always come out glass smooth. If done cold, I am never sure if I’m going to get a finish that doesn’t have some orange peel. When heated first for 5 minutes they ALWAYS are glass smooth. They don’t have to be cure temp just warmer. My guess is that the powder gets to the point of flowing out sooner and has more time while baking to flow out totally smooth.

We use both Gema and Nordson, and Ive found Nordson is far superior in tight areas.

Based on the amount of powder on your nostrils I would say your respirator is not working. Not good.

Just found your channel! My family is looking at buying a Powder coat shop to do our own equipment- we refurbish our equipment fleet (500 scissor lifts and other aerial equipment) We have around 10 scissors at a PC shop at any given time, so we want to bring it in house- The best results we’ve had as a customer to remove the old powder coating was a shop that would bake it off in a huge oven that got super hot, then they would blast it… Have you heard of this practice before? Having trouble even finding the name of the type of ovens for this process.

the issue I recently had with hot flocking it just how easy it is to put down a thicker layer than you mean to. i went too much and i got drips and runs! didn't realize that was even possible. lmao

What was the cost for this job? How does your powder coat with a clear coat added perform? How long does it last. How do you clean it. Will it last for several years and not peel, flake or crack? Your viewers will want to know the answers to these questions.

1. How durable is this powder coating??? That is an incredibly important subject for you to address. 2. You powder-coated the area where the lug nuts attach to the wheel. Will that cause the powder coating around the lug nuts to crack and/or peel? Over repeated times when the lug nuts are loosened and tightened, will the powder coating hold up and not start flaking in these areas?

You said you had a powder coning manual. How could I get my hands on one of those?

ive been considering the dustless blasting system for a while now, this right here only solidifies that decision, watched a guy go through the chrome and nickel layer in seconds in an area the side of you hand

Here in Canada those are banned from most strippers. It can be orderd but has to be hipped as a hazardous material.

Ok so what’s the other green stuff you use. I’m up in Canada we use something called ultrastip sd and it’s alcohol based but is crap because it evaporates fairly quick. It also only works on powdercoat. It works fast when fresh but deteriorates quickly and is very expensive

Sad a chroming shop didn't see the rims before them coming to you. A plating shop would completely strip the failing coating. You should have gotten back raw castings. The epa doesn't like vats of acid in any environment, even trained regulated ones. So they leave mild acids and grinders to spread it all over the place.

Nice work, but the inner edges of the rim are the business zones. Aside from the off looks of the rims in original state, They leak air. The resulting outcome of not paying a lot of attention to the rims inner lips result in consumer useless, pretty dishes. A spin on an old tire balancer or lath using a bit of sand paper tends to actual fix the issue. Coating the bead surface professionally helps to protect the beads from unscrupulous tire changing tech as well.
